{"id":3571,"date":"2023-01-12T12:33:42","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T12:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofornodecatuxa.es\/night-of-san-juan-meigas-and-purifying-fire\/"},"modified":"2024-07-30T10:05:52","modified_gmt":"2024-07-30T10:05:52","slug":"night-of-san-juan-meigas-and-purifying-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofornodecatuxa.es\/en\/night-of-san-juan-meigas-and-purifying-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Night of San Juan: Meigas and purifying fire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Galicia lives and drinks from centuries-old traditions.\nLegends and magical traditions intertwine our history and our life.\nAnd we like it that way.    <\/p>\n\n<p>In <strong><em>O Forno de Catuxa<\/em><\/strong> we are going to remember and relive them.<\/p>\n\n<p>A special one is the <strong>night of San Juan<\/strong>, the early morning of June 23 to 24 in which the sorceresses make spells and concoctions, burn purifying herbs and invoke the spirits of the forest, requesting protection.<\/p>\n\n<p>For these payments it is said that it is a night of meigas in which the afterlife and the earthly world come together, the moment to scare away evil spirits and the evil eye.\nThe night to invoke good luck, good harvests and fertility. <\/p>\n\n<p>That night the summer solstice is celebrated and the bonfires illuminate the darkness like torches lit in the middle of nowhere.\nAs symbols of the end of the cycle and rebirth.\nAround the powerful fire, the liturgy is repeated year after year and petitions are thrown into the bonfire to put an end to all that is evil and so that, from its ashes, like a phoenix, good may arise.  <\/p>\n\n<p>It is a night to live intensely.\nIf you are here you can do it with us: jump the bonfire, drink a <em>queimada <\/em>after listening to a chilling spell and&#8230;, wash your face with the magical water of San Juan. <\/p>\n\n<p>  But if you are not there that day and you want us to do it for you, we propose a plan:<\/p>\n\n<p>Throughout the year we will have a mailbox so that you can deposit the requests you want to burn that magical night.\nYou can put them in a sealed envelope.\nWe only ask that you leave your email in a visible place.\nWe will collect all the requests and throw them into the bonfire for you.\nAnd we will send you a video so that you can check that we have scrupulously fulfilled your will.    <\/p>\n\n<p><em>Flames of fire, purify<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><em>Reach the moon to whom I claim<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><em>On this magical night:<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><em>Love<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><em>Fortune  <\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><em>And happiness<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Galicia lives and drinks from centuries-old traditions.
